How to qualify as an Early Childhood Teacher if you've already been subbing at the K-12 level (Pennsylvania)

Early childhood education can be a challenging, yet rewarding experience! It's a great way to open yourself up to more opportunities, as well as have more work available during K-12 school breaks in the Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer.  In order to be eligible to sub at some of our preschools in Pennsylvania, you will need to complete the following requirements: 

1. Complete FBI Fingerprint Check with the Department of Human Services
  1. If you are already subbing at the K-12 level, you already have an FBI Fingerprint Check.  However, it is likely that this Fingerprint Check is done through the Department of Education.  To sub at the Early Childhood Level, you will need to complete a background check with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services

  1. Step 1 
    1. Enroll with IdentoGO here.
  2. Step 2 
    1.       Enter the following service code: 1KG738
  3. Step 3 
    1.       Select "Schedule or Manage Appointment"
  4. Step 4
    1.       Proceed by following detailed instructions in attachment down below

2. Complete the Better Kid Care Introductory Course (10 Hours)
  1. Step 1:
    1. Create an account with the Penn State Extension Portal: https://od.bkc.psu.edu/user/sign_in
  2. Step 2:
    1. Search for "Get Started with Center-Based Care - Revised 2022"
  3. Step 3
    1. Finish the course and receive your completion certificate!
Once you complete the course, email your Recruitment Consultant with proof!  **If you have already completed this course and it is available through your PD Registry, then please send a screenshot of your completed PD Registry Courses.

3. If you meet the requirements for Assistant Group Supervisor, then it will be required to complete an in-person CPR Course in order to be left alone with the children.

  2. Please scan or take a picture of your CPR Certificate and send it to your Recruitment Consultant
  3. Please retain your receipt - after completion of 10 days in the classroom, you may request reimbursement by contacting support@hellosubs.co
