This article provides information for substitutes working through the
ECE qualification process for HelloSubs. There are several different options to satisfy this requirement:
- Online - Colorado Shines PDIS Introduction to First Aid
- In-Person - Any number of approved vendors
- **The CDEC does not accept CPR certification from non-approved vendors
Do you already have CPR/First Aid certification? Check the
approved vendor list and use CTRL F to search for the vendor that issued your certificate. If it does not appear in the list, you will need to complete another course with an approved vendor.
If you do not have an up to date First Aid certification, we recommend completing PDIS Introduction to First Aid for quicker activation. We recommend completing an In-Person course at your convenience. Read below for additional details:
PDIS - Introduction to First Aid
The free online course offered by Colorado Shines is the quickest way to meet the CPR/First Aid requirement for ECE qualification. However, keep in mind that teachers who only have the PDIS Introduction to First Aid certificate will be limited to Assistant Teacher roles only. This PDIS course is great for quick activation or re-activation while waiting to complete an In-Person CPR course. Follow these instructions to complete the PDIS Introduction to First Aid certificate:
2. Log in or create an account
3. Go to 'Learning' > 'Learning Search'
4. Search 'Introduction to First Aid'
In-Person CPR/First Aid Course
An In-Person CPR/First Aid course is sufficient for activation for ECE and is REQUIRED for
Level 2/Lead Teacher qualification. Additionally, Assistant Teachers without an In-Person CPR certification cannot be left unattended with children at any time. We recommend completing an In-Person CPR course at your earliest convenience.
In-Person CPR courses must be obtained through an approved vendor of the CDEC. You can see a full list of approved vendors on the
CDEC's website. Use CTRL F to search 'CPR'.
