HelloSubs Physical Contact Policy
K-12 Policy:
Substitute teachers must never initiate or engage in physical contact with students, regardless of circumstances. This policy prohibits physical interactions such as hugging, slapping, punching, pushing, kissing, or fondling. Exceptions are made only in emergency situations where minimal physical intervention is necessary to prevent harm to oneself, the student, or others.
Guidelines for K-12:
If a student attempts to initiate physical contact (e.g., hugging), politely avoid reciprocating.
Toileting responsibilities, when possible, should be delegated to classroom aides.
One-on-one contact with students outside of school or school-sponsored activities is strictly prohibited. Exceptions apply only if the student is a relative or the contact has explicit parental/guardian approval.
Employees must immediately report any observed or suspected inappropriate physical contact to HelloSubs management.
Early Childhood Education (ECE) Policy:
Substitute teachers assigned to early childhood education settings, including preschool programs, must remain especially vigilant regarding physical contact to prevent any perception of inappropriate behavior. Substitute teachers should never initiate physical contact but may be required to provide minimal assistance in specific situations.
Guidelines for ECE:
Young children (Pre K-3) may attempt to show affection (e.g., hugging). Reciprocation is permissible in the appropriate context.
Diaper changing responsibilities may be required for preschool programs (ages 2-3). Always exercise caution and professionalism in these scenarios.
Substitute teachers may assist students in dressing for departure from school, including tasks like tying shoes, zipping coats, and helping with hats and gloves. Always use common sense and minimal physical contact.
One-on-one interactions with students outside of school or school-sponsored activities are strictly prohibited, except when the student is a relative or there is explicit parental/guardian consent.
Employees must immediately report any observed or suspected inappropriate physical contact to HelloSubs management.
Compliance with these guidelines is mandatory to ensure student safety and maintain professional integrity.
